"Captain John Mullan & Hell Gate Ronde"

The Captain John Mullan neighborhood is the birthplace of Missoula, which was first settled as Hell Gate Ronde in 1860. Four years later, town development moved four miles east to Missoula Mills. Land that was devoted to agriculture for a hundred years in our neighborhood is now increasingly  dedicated to homes and businesses. Near Reserve Street, our neighborhood is fully urban; further west, it is more rural.

Parts of our neighborhood remain outside the City limits, but whether City or County residents, we the people of the Captain John Mullan Neighborhood Council will acknowledge all residents, seek their advice, their input, and support.

This Neighborhood Council is organized in accordance with City Ordinances for the purposes of increasing neighborhood and individual participation in city government; providing a forum for promoting the involvement of residents in matters affecting our neighborhood; sharing skills and information; and increasing the awareness of our neighborhood as one of many City communities that contributes to the strength of the City of Missoula. We will respect the right of residents to interact with the City Council, Mayor, and City departments as individuals, whether their interests are the same as those of the Neighborhood Council or not.
